Federal Tax Payments (IRS)
The IRS offers several convenient ways to pay your federal taxes online. Choose the option that works best for you.
IRS Direct Pay (Recommended - Free)
Pay directly from your checking or savings account with no fees. The fastest and most secure way to pay.

How to Use IRS Direct Pay:
- Go to IRS.gov/payments/direct-pay
- Click "Make a Payment" and select your payment type:
- Balance due on tax return
- Estimated tax payment
- Other payment types
- Enter your personal information (SSN, name, address)
- Verify your identity by answering questions from your tax return
- Enter your bank account information (routing and account numbers)
- Select payment date (pay now or schedule up to 365 days in advance)
- Enter payment amount (maximum $10 million per payment)
- Review and submit your payment
- Save your confirmation number - you can check payment status for up to 2 weeks
Important Notes:
- Completely free - no processing fees
- Can modify or cancel scheduled payments up to 2 business days before payment date
- Payments post within 3-4 business days
- Cannot use if you've never filed taxes or haven't filed in 6+ years

- Always save confirmation numbers - keep as proof of payment
- Allow processing time - electronic payments take 3-4 business days to post
- Schedule in advance - you can schedule payments up to a year ahead
- File even if you can't pay - avoid additional penalties by filing on time even if you can't pay the full amount
- Important deadline: Tax payments are due April 15, 2025 (for 2024 tax year)
- Estimated taxes: Quarterly payments due April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15

Indiana (IN)
Indiana Tax Payment Options
Website: intime.dor.in.gov (INTIME portal)
Option 1: Without an Account
- Go to intime.dor.in.gov
- Under the "Non-bill payments" panel, click on your preferred payment method (Bank Account - no fee, or Credit/Debit Card - fee applies)
- Select "Individual" as the tax type, then click "Next"
- Select your ID Type (SSN or ITIN) and enter your information
- Under "Payment type," select "Return Payment" for balance due or "Estimated Payment" for quarterly payments
- Select the filing period end date (e.g., select "31-Dec-2024" for 2024 tax year)
- Enter the payment amount
- Review the summary page and click "Pay"
- You'll be redirected to a third-party site to complete payment, then back to INTIME
- Save or print your confirmation number immediately
Option 2: With an INTIME Account
- Go to intime.dor.in.gov and log in (or click "New to INTIME? Sign up")
- Under the Summary tab, next to account details, select "Make a payment"
- Choose payment method (Bank account or Credit card)
- Follow the same steps as Option 1 starting from step 4
Important Notes:
- E-check payments have a $1 fee
- Credit/debit cards have sliding scale fees (typically 2.35%)
- Payment is NOT complete until you receive a confirmation number
Kentucky (KY)
Kentucky Tax Payment Options
Website: epayment.ky.gov/EPAY
Without Creating an Account
- Go to epayment.ky.gov/EPAY
- Click "Log In Now" (or "Get Started")
- On the next page, click "Make a payment without an account"
- Enter your demographic information:
- Social Security Number (this is your Tax Account Number)
- Name and address
- Tax year
- Select payment type (Balance Due, Extension Payment, or Estimated Tax)
- Choose payment method:
- eCheck (electronic bank draft) - requires routing and account numbers
- Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express)
- Enter payment amount
- Important: Enter your email address to receive payment confirmation
- Review information and submit payment
- Print confirmation page for your records
With a Kentucky.gov Account
- Go to epayment.ky.gov/EPAY
- Log in with your Kentucky.gov account credentials (or register for a new account)
- Follow the prompts to complete payment
- Save confirmation
Important Notes:
- eCheck typically has no fee
- Credit/debit card payments have convenience fees
- Save your payment confirmation immediately
Illinois (IL)
Illinois Tax Payment Options
Website: mytax.illinois.gov
For Individual Income Tax Payments (Without Account)
- Go to mytax.illinois.gov
- Under the "Individuals" box, click "Make an IL-1040, IL-1040-ES, or IL-505-I payment"
- If you don't know your IL-PIN:
- Select "Look up my IL-PIN"
- Enter your SSN and either Driver's License number OR prior year's AGI
- Check the confirmation box and click "Conduct inquiry"
- Write down your IL-PIN
- Click back and close the IL-PIN inquiry screen
- Return to the payment page and select payment type:
- IL-1040 Payment (for balance due on tax year 2024)
- IL-1040 Estimated Payment (for current year quarterly payments)
- IL-505-I (for extension payments)
- Select the tax year (2024 for balance due, 2025 for estimates)
- If making estimated payment, select the applicable quarter
- Click "Next"
- Enter your payment information:
- Electronic check (from checking or savings account) - recommended
- Credit/debit card (fees apply)
- Enter payment date and amount
- Click "Submit"
- Print confirmation screen and keep for records
With a MyTax Illinois Account
- Log in to mytax.illinois.gov
- On the top menu, select "Manage Payment and Returns"
- Under "Accounts," select "Individual Income Tax"
- Under "Show," select "Balances" and "All"
- Under "For Periods," select "All"
- Click on the appropriate tax period
- Click "Add Payment"
- Select or enter payment channel information
- Enter payment amount and date
- Submit and print confirmation
Important Notes:
- E-check is faster and typically has lower fees than credit cards
- Credit card fees are approximately 2.15% or $1.25-$2.15 minimum
- Always print confirmation screen - keep as proof of payment
Ohio (OH)
Ohio Tax Payment Options

Option 1: Without an Account
- Go to tax.ohio.gov
- On the left side under "Individual," click "Make an income tax payment"
- Enter taxpayer information:
- Social Security Number
- Name
- Address
- Click "Next"
- Select payment type:
- Original Return Payment (for balance due)
- Estimated Payment (for quarterly payments)
- Extension Payment
- Select tax year
- If paying estimated tax, select the quarter
- Choose payment method:
- Electronic Check (requires routing and account numbers)
- Credit/Debit Card (convenience fees apply)
- Enter payment amount
- Follow instructions to complete payment
- You'll be redirected to a third-party site if using credit card
- Save confirmation page
Option 2: With an OHID Account
- Go to tax.ohio.gov/OHTAX
- On the top right, click "Log in or create an OHID account"
- Log in (or create new OHID account)
- From your dashboard, click "Make a payment"
- Select "Estimated Payment" or payment type
- Select "Electronic Check" or "Credit/Debit Card"
- Enter amount and payment information
- Submit payment
- Print confirmation
Important Notes:
- OHID account allows you to track payments and access prior returns
- E-check is typically cheaper than credit cards
- Credit card fees apply (paid to third-party processor)
Missouri (MO)
Missouri Tax Payment Options
Website: mytax.mo.gov (MyTax Missouri)
Option 1: Without a MyTax Account
- Go to dor.mo.gov/taxation/individual/pay-online.html or mytax.mo.gov
- Select payment type:
- "Make a Personal Income Tax Estimated Payment (MO-1040ES)" for quarterly payments
- "Make a Payment Without Bill Reference Number" for balance due or extension
- Enter your information:
- Social Security Number
- Name and contact information
- Tax year
- Select payment method:
- eCheck - requires routing number and account number ($0.50 fee)
- Credit/Debit Card - click the credit card link (convenience fees apply)
- Enter payment amount
- For eCheck: Allow 3-4 business days for payment to post
- For Credit card: Allow 5-6 business days
- Print confirmation page immediately
Option 2: With a MyTax Missouri Account
- Go to mytax.mo.gov
- Click "Register for MyTax Missouri" or log in if you have an account
- Once logged in, navigate to individual income tax payments
- Select payment type and follow prompts
- Save payment information for future use (optional)
- Submit payment and print confirmation
Important Notes:
- eCheck has only a $0.50 handling fee
- Credit/debit card fees: $1.25-$2.15 for payments under $100, or 2.15% for payments over $100
- Fees go to NCR Payments (third-party vendor), not Missouri DOR
- Your payment is postmarked on the date you submit it (unless scheduled for future date)
